The Delhi High Court has dismissed a plea challenging the Detailed Application Form (DAF) issued by the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) for the Civil Services (Main) Examination 2023. The application was moved by various civil services aspirants who were contesting UPSC’s decision to publish the answer key of the preliminary examination only after the declaration of the final result.

The Plea and the Court’s Decision

The plea was filed by 17 civil services aspirants through Advocate Rajeev Kumar Dubey. They challenged the press note released by the UPSC on June 12, which stated that the answer key of the preliminary examination would be published only after the entire process was over. The aspirants argued that not providing the answer key to the students and not considering the representations of the candidates despite a particular time window being provided for the same was arbitrary and defied all principles of fairness, logic, and rationality.

However, Justice Chandra Dhari Singh dismissed the application, stating that the exam is important for “talented people” and not those filing writ petitions. The court also refused to stay the decision of the UPSC inviting applications for the Civil Services (Main) Examination, 2023.

Implications for Aspirants

This decision has significant implications for UPSC aspirants. The court’s refusal to stay the application process means that the mains examination will proceed as scheduled, despite the concerns raised by the petitioners. The court’s remarks also underscore the importance of the examination and the high standards expected of candidates.

The court has asked the UPSC to file its preliminary objections in the matter and has listed the matter for hearing next on July 26. It remains to be seen how the UPSC will respond to the issues raised by the aspirants and what impact this will have on the examination process moving forward.

Conclusion

The UPSC examination is one of the most prestigious and challenging examinations in the country, and this recent judgment makes it in favor of the commission. Aspirants are advised to continue their preparations and stay updated.

Union Public Service Commission(UPSC) has released the Civil Services IAS Exam 2023 notification. Candidates can now start applying for the UPSC IAS Prelims Exam 2023. The last date for online application will be 21 February 2023, till 6:00 PM, as per the notification.

UPSC Civil Services IAS Exam Notification PDF 2023.

The commission, in the official notification pdf, provides a detailed overview for the Civil Services Exam 2023. The commission will conduct the prelims exam on 28 May 2023. And candidates who qualify the prelims exam will be eligible for the main written exam.

The preliminary exam will be conducted to recruit Civil Services and Indian Forest Services in Class A officers of the Government of India. Here is an overview of the examination.

Events

Dates

UPSC CSE Notification 2023

01 February 2023

Online Application Start

01 February 2023

Last Date of Online Application

01 February 2023

Vacancies

1105

Expected Date for Prelims Admit Card

21 February 2023

UPSC Prelims Exam Date 2023

08 May 2023

Prelim Result Date

To be announced

UPSC Mains Exam Date 2023

28 May 2023

IAS Mains Result Date

To be announced

UPSC Exam Date for Interview

To be announced

Final Result Date

To be announced

Merit List

To be announced

Civil Services Vacancies 2023

The commission has released the calendar for the IAS Exam 2023. As per the notification, it is expected that 1105 vacancies to be filled this year.

The examination is expected to fill approximately 1105 vacancies, with 37 vacancies reserved for Persons with Benchmark Disability Category. These include 7 vacancies for candidates with blindness and low vision, 5 vacancies for candidates with deafness and hard of hearing, 15 vacancies for candidates with locomotor disabilities, and 10 vacancies for candidates with multiple disabilities.

Through this recruitment, UPSC will recommend IAS, IFS, IPS, and other A-grade posts.

Eligibility for UPSC IAS Exam 2023.

Educational Eligibility: Candidates with bachelor’s degrees in the last year are eligible for the Civil Services Prelims Examination.

Age limit for the IAS Exam 2023: Minimum age for the examination is 21, and the maximum is 32 years on 01 August 2023. However, there is age relaxation for OBC, SC, ST, Defence Service, ECOs/SSCO, and PwBD candidates. Read the official notification for complete information about the examination.

Exam Pattern and Syllabus.

This usually needs a year-long dedicated preparation to qualify for the examination. 3 stages in the exam are Prelims, Mains, and Interviews. Candidates who qualified the Prelims will be eligible for the main written examination. And the candidates who score well in the mains will appear for an interview.

There will be two papers in the prelim exam. In which general studies paper 1 is competitive and CSAT also known as GS 2 is qualifying in nature.

And there will be total 9 papers in the IAS mains written exam. Out of which, 2 papers are qualifying in nature and others are competitive.

It might be interesting to know that interview is a part of the main exam. That means if the candidate scores well in the written, and for some reason not performed well in the interview, he’ll qualify or even can top the exam like 2019 IAS topper Pradeep Singh.

UPSC Civil Services Notification 2023.

This commission now released the notification for the IAS Examination 2023. Candidates can download this notification from the commission’s official website or a direct link provided below.

Download the Official Notification pdf IAS 2023.

The commission will be expected to recruit 1105 vacancies this year. However, it is important to note that the final number of vacancies may change based on information received from the Cadre Controlling Authorities. Reservations will also be made for candidates belonging to Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, Other Backward Classes, Economically Weaker Sections, and Persons with Benchmark Disabilities, as determined by the Government.
