How we prepare your study material

You should be able to understand an explanation, check its source, and decide how to use it in your preparation. This page explains what our article labels mean.

Start with the source

For exam rules, dates, and applications, follow the relevant UPSC or examining-body notice. For books and subject material, we link to the publisher or public institution where available. IAS Hindu is an independent study resource and is not affiliated with UPSC, NCERT, Vision IAS, or The Hindu.

Understand the dates you see

The publication date records when an article first appeared. An updated date records a revision. “Source information checked” means the listed source material was consulted on that date; it does not mean an examining body approved our explanation. A new notice or correction can supersede a previous one.

Adding an archive label or changing a category does not turn an old article into new advice. Our dated archive preserves earlier notices and news reports with their original context.

Know who prepared the article

Older articles retain their original bylines. New material from the IAS Hindu editorial desk uses an organization byline. Articles prepared or revised with AI assistance say so near their sources. We do not present that assistance as a named teacher’s personal experience or claim specialist human review where none is recorded.

Use practice questions correctly

Questions written for our guides are labelled “Practice question” or “Original practice.” They are learning exercises, not predictions. When we refer to a previous-year paper, we identify the exam, stage, and year and link to the official paper. An illustrative answer is our explanation, not an official UPSC answer or marking scheme.

Check older downloads before you rely on them

A third-party PDF can change or become unavailable. A legacy link is not a claim that its edition, authorship, contents, or access has been verified. Where we could not check a file, the article says so and offers an official starting source. Study plans and sample explanations on the page are not descriptions of an unseen PDF.

Help us correct an error

If an article shows an available comment form, use it to identify the sentence, explain the issue, and share the relevant official source. Include the exam year when it matters. Do not post application numbers, identity documents, phone numbers, or other private information.

A correction should be checked against its source and reflected in the article text. A material change should also explain what changed and update the revision date. Study suggestions are labelled as guidance; official eligibility decisions and application support remain with the examining body.
